Met Office Forecast Charts

The charts above show actual and forecast mean sea level pressure (solid lines) and weather fronts out to 5 days ahead.

Analysis chart (T+0): Current situation at 00, 06, 12 or 18 UTC, including pressure patterns and fronts.
Short range forecasts (T+24, T+36, T+48): Project developments over the next 1-2 days, tracking highs, lows, and frontal systems.
Medium range forecasts (T+72, T+84, T+96, T+120): Extend up to 5 days ahead, giving a broader view of evolving patterns (with lower certainty).
Charts beyond 24 hours ahead also show 1000-500hPa thicknesses (dotted lines) and indicate atmospheric depth in decametres (dam) between the 1000 and 500hPa pressure levels.. Values below 528 dam often signal snow risk over the UK (cold polar air), while values above 564 dam can indicate heatwave conditions (warm tropical air).

These charts are no longer sourced directly from the Met Office following the closure of their Datapoint service. They are now provided via NOAA, with a slightly revised set of charts. The T+12 chart has been discontinued, while the analysis and T+24 charts are now updated four times per day instead of twice.
